On Tuesday, Qatar’s ruler informed global leaders that his nation is persisting in its diplomatic initiatives to mediate an end to the Gaza conflict, despite Israeli strikes on targets within Qatar.

Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani denounced Israel’s “treacherous” attack at the UN, highlighting it targeted Hamas leaders situated in a Doha residential area, where they operated a liaison office.

Qatar, together with Egypt and the United States, has spearheaded efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, though multiple diplomatic endeavors in Doha have yet to succeed.

“Contrary to the Israeli prime minister’s claims, this assault is not a legitimate exercise of the right to pursue terrorists,” he stated to the General Assembly. “It hampers any diplomatic efforts to end the genocide against the people in Gaza.”

He continued, “We will pursue diplomacy even when our adversaries opt for military solutions. Our efforts will persist in collaboration with Egypt and the U.S.”

Following Hamas’ deadly attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, and Israel’s intense military response, Qatar has established itself as a trusted mediator for all parties involved.

Sheikh Tamim also accused Israel of “abandoning the idea of freeing hostages.”

“Their aim is to render Gaza uninhabitable,” he remarked. “Thus, the Israeli leadership seeks to prolong the conflict.”
