The Qatari News Agency conducted an interview with Abbas this Sunday morning, ahead of the urgent Arab-Islamic summit to be hosted by Qatar tomorrow, Monday. Abbas emphasized that “the message and goal of participating in the Doha summit are clear and consistent, represented in the fact that Qatar’s security is an integral part of our Arab and Islamic national security, and we all stand united in facing these attacks.” He pointed out that the Israeli attack on Qatar is a dangerous indicator seeking to undermine shared Arab and Islamic security and destabilize the region, noting that “a unified Arab and Islamic response is necessary to protect our collective security.” Abbas called for taking urgent and decisive diplomatic steps and deterrent measures, in addition to holding Israel accountable for its ongoing violations against Qatar, Palestine, and other Arab countries. Meanwhile, the Palestinian president praised Qatar’s role under the leadership of Tamim bin Hamad, pointing to Qatar’s steadfast stance in supporting the Palestinian cause. The Israeli army announced an airstrike, stating that these leaders “bear direct responsibility for committing the massacre of October 7, 2023, and managing the war against Israel.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a joint statement regarding the arrangement to assassinate Hamas leaders in Doha last Tuesday, saying it “came after consultation and full support from Israeli security agencies,” and the Israeli army named the operation “Summit of Fire.” This Israeli attack comes days after the Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir threatened to eliminate Hamas leaders abroad amid ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. Last year witnessed a series of Israeli assassinations targeting prominent Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip, Iran, and Lebanon.
