Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol fans had a reason to celebrate in London on Friday as the iconic pair revealed a bronze statue of their famous characters, Raj and Simran, from the blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) by Yash Raj Films.
This is the first time an Indian film has been honored with a statue in Leicester Square, joining the likes of cinematic legends such as Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Paddington, Singin’ in the Rain, and superheroes like Batman and Wonder Woman.
The statue showcases Shah Rukh and Kajol in one of the movie’s most unforgettable poses, which the actors recreated during the unveiling ceremony.

At the event, Shah Rukh Khan stated, “DDLJ was created with a pure heart. We aimed to tell a love story, showcasing how love can transcend barriers and how the world can be a better place with more love in it, which is why DDLJ has had a lasting impact for over 30 years! Personally, DDLJ is part of my identity, and it is humbling to witness the film, and Kajol and I, receiving so much love since its release.”
“I am grateful to the people of the United Kingdom and the Heart of London Business Alliance for celebrating DDLJ and immortalizing us with this gesture. Seeing DDLJ become the first Indian film to be honored in the iconic Scenes in the Square trail is an emotional moment bringing back many memories. I feel immense pride knowing the film has been embraced globally, and I want to share this moment with the entire cast and crew of DDLJ, my friend and director Aditya Chopra, and the Yash Raj Films family. This is a moment I will never forget!”
Kajol, reflecting on this honor, expressed, “It’s amazing to see Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge continue to receive so much affection, even 30 years later. Witnessing the statue unveiled in London felt like reliving a piece of our history – a story that has truly spanned generations.”
