As the long weekend draws near, a refreshing change has spread across parts of the UAE. On Friday, September 5, gentle rain graced areas like Ghashaba and Al-Fu’ah, north of Al Ain, bringing relief from the scorching heat.
A video from Storm Centre shows rainwater gently pooling on roads, with cars splashing through. The sky is a canvas of grey, hanging low.
There is no honking or chatter — just the soothing, rhythmic tap of raindrops breaking the silence. A rare, beautiful moment, perfectly aligning with the weekend. For many, it symbolizes a blessing to honor the Prophet’s Birthday.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued yellow and orange alerts for convective clouds tied to rainfall.

The weather shift isn’t confined to Al Ain. On Thursday, September 4, Dubai encountered heavy showers, notably around Al Maktoum Airport. Storm Centre footage shows vehicles moving cautiously on Emirates Road as rain reduces visibility and brings welcomed coolness.
These scattered showers are part of a broader weather pattern influencing the nation. NCM forecasts unstable conditions, especially in the capital. Abu Dhabi is predicted to experience rain and thunderstorms over the weekend, and residents should stay informed with the latest updates.
In an exclusive Khaleej Times interview on Thursday, NCM meteorologist Dr. Ahmed Habib revealed: “We’re experiencing low pressure at both the surface and upper layers over the UAE’s western regions. This system draws water vapor from the Arabian Sea and the Oman Sea. When heated during the day, it generates strong updrafts, leading to condensation and the formation of convective clouds, bringing rain to scattered parts of the country.”
Motorists and travelers across the UAE should plan ahead, as sudden weather changes — including gusts, low visibility, and rain — may impact road conditions. Yet, for many enduring the long summer, the rain offers not just relief but a moment to pause, reflect, and savor the rare tranquility of a rainy desert day.
