With just a week remaining before the new academic year begins, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has urged all school bus operators in the emirate to be thoroughly prepared.

The RTA emphasized the necessity for operators to adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols, ensuring a secure and successful learning environment.

School bus operators and administrations are responsible for maintaining safety and providing a comfortable atmosphere for students, supervisors, and drivers.

The RTA consistently monitors schools and operators to ensure compliance with safety standards. This involves inspections of school buses and operators.

The authority outlined requirements and expectations for school bus operators, drivers, and attendants:

  1. School transport operators must instruct their drivers to rigorously follow traffic rules, especially near schools.

  2. Drivers should avoid obstructing traffic flow to minimize congestion and ensure smooth movement.

  3. Operators must offer comprehensive training programs for drivers and attendants, focusing on safely and professionally interacting with students, under RTA guidance.

  4. Buses should be equipped with necessary safety features and measures.

  5. Operators should maintain regular communication with parents to assure them of their children’s safety during commutes.

  6. Drivers must ensure student safety by adhering to safe driving practices.

  7. Bus attendants must ensure students are escorted to the nearest point to their homes when dropped off.

The RTA also reminded students to follow bus attendants’ instructions when boarding and alighting the school bus.

Accident-Free Day

Previously, the Ministry of Interior announced August 25, 2025, as ‘A Day Without Accidents,’ marking the start of the new academic year.

To incentivize motorists, the ministry initiated a reward system for those who don’t commit any traffic violations on this day. Motorists who pledge on the official MOI website and have no violations on August 25 will have four black points deducted from their driving licenses, done electronically by September 15, 2025, without needing to visit service centers.

Since the announcements, motorists have eagerly signed up for the pledge, seeing it as a welcome relief and a reminder to adhere to traffic rules.
