Peskov told reporters on Tuesday: “We are ready to continue adhering to the restrictions for a year. This is what we will do, but this, of course, requires a similar stance from the United States.” Peskov revealed that “the Kremlin has seen reports that Trump will personally speak on Russia’s initiative regarding the New START strategic offensive arms reduction treaty.” In response to a question from Sputnik, Peskov told reporters: “We heard yesterday a statement from my colleague at the White House, indicating that President Trump will personally comment on this issue.” Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Monday that Russia is ready to continue adhering to the restrictions under the New START treaty for a year after February 5, 2026. The Russian President noted that compliance steps under the START treaty would be effective if the United States reciprocates similarly.
