The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Saturday evening that the Air Force is investigating the reason for the failure to intercept a Yemeni missile after part of it exploded in a yard in central Israel. It explained that “the army will examine whether the Yemeni missile contained cluster munitions, similar to the small munitions scattered in the country during the recent Israeli war with Iran.” It noted that it is capable of deploying small munitions that spread over a relatively wide area.

On Friday, the Yemeni “Ansar Allah” (Houthis) group announced that its forces carried out missile and aerial attacks on Israel, following days of Tel Aviv bombing a power plant in Sana’a (central Yemen), in retaliation for the group’s attacks, which they justify as support for Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip against the Israeli army.

The spokesman for the “Ansar Allah” group, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, stated in a statement broadcast by the group’s “Al-Masirah” TV that “the missile force carried out a qualitative military operation targeting the Lod Airport (Ben Gurion Airport) in the occupied Yaffa area with a hypersonic ballistic missile type (Palestine 2).” Saree considered the operation a victory for the oppressed Palestinian people and its fighters and a response to the Zionist crimes of genocide and starvation against our brothers in the Gaza Strip.

The “Ansar Allah” attack comes days after the group announced last Sunday its targeting of Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv with a hypersonic ballistic missile “Palestine 2,” hours after Israel bombed the Hizziz station south of Sana’a (central Yemen), causing it to go out of service and cutting off electricity to large areas of the city.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza War in October 2023, missile and drone attacks have been carried out on Israel and on ships linked to it or to the United States and its allies in the Red Sea, emphasizing that they come in support of Gaza and affirming that they will continue until Israel stops the war.
