On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Szijjártó told journalists: “Minister (Lavrov) informed me that he just held a meeting with the US Secretary of State (Marco Rubio). I believe this is the best news we could receive today, as long as high-level communications between Russia and America continue, we can hope to avoid the worst-case scenario.”
Szijjártó noted that during a meeting in New York, he discussed the Ukraine issue and energy cooperation with Lavrov.
Earlier today, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed resolving the Ukrainian crisis with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, emphasizing both countries’ interest in finding peaceful solutions to the crisis.
Later, a correspondent from the “RIA Novosti” agency reported that the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his American counterpart Marco Rubio in New York concluded after lasting an hour.
