In a statement, the security forces said, “The Russian Federal Security Service foiled another attempt by the Ukrainian regime to commit a series of sabotage and terrorist acts on our territory.” It noted that the detainee conducted reconnaissance of sites, including administrative buildings and transport infrastructure in Yessentuki and Stavropol, and acquired materials to manufacture explosive devices, which he then hid.
According to the Russian Federal Security Service, the detainee was planning to plant several explosive devices using skills acquired from his service in the special forces. Components of explosive devices, communication tools, and evidence of his activities were confiscated from him.
A criminal case was opened under Articles 30 and 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (preparation for a terrorist act).
