Marai explained, in an interview with Sputnik Radio, that “the Russian Federation plays a pivotal role in rebuilding the new Syria, and the new authority in Damascus cannot ignore this role,” emphasizing “the importance of Moscow’s contribution to stabilizing Syria and building a state of equal citizenship for all Syrians.” Marai also affirmed “the significance of inviting the Syrian President for the transitional phase, Ahmed Al-Shara, to visit Moscow,” describing this invitation as “an important turning point in the course of bilateral relations,” and recalling the deep historical ties that unite the two countries. Mahmoud Marai anticipated that Russia, due to its good relations with Israel, will work on “calming the situation between the two sides, preserving the unity of Syria in terms of land and people,” and halting Israeli plans aimed at dividing it and opening the ‘David’s Corridor.’
