Salam Calls for Control Over National Territory

Today, Saturday, during a dialogue session discussing the repercussions, Salam emphasized the need to “impose our control over our entire territory exclusively with our own forces,” according to the “An-Nahar” website.

He added, “On this day, we recall one of the most painful moments in our contemporary history. A moment that did not affect only the families of the martyrs and victims but struck the entire nation at its heart and conscience. The August 4 explosion was not just an incident; it was a shocking moment where the trust between the citizen and the state was tested, and deep gaps in our public life and accountability reality in our country were revealed. Therefore, discovering the truth of what happened and holding those responsible accountable is not a personal demand but a comprehensive national issue.”

The Port of Beirut witnessed an explosion on August 4, 2020, which claimed the lives of more than 215 people and injured about 6,500 others. The explosion also damaged approximately 50,000 housing units, with damages estimated at around 15 billion dollars. Until now, the truth about the perpetrator and the real cause behind this explosion remains unknown.
