These risks include high cholesterol, insulin resistance, especially among children aged ten and teenagers aged eighteen who spend long hours in front of smartphones, televisions, computers, and video games, according to the “News Medical” website.
The study, conducted in Denmark, was based on analyzing data from more than 1,000 participants from two long-term studies. The results showed that each additional hour a child spends in front of the screen increases the likelihood of developing health problems compared to their peers.
The study found that teenagers aged 18 spend an average of 6 hours daily in front of screens, while the average screen time for children aged 10 is about 3 hours a day. It also indicated that late sleeping hours exacerbate the relationship between screen time and the risk of heart diseases.
The study serves as evidence that this relationship starts at an early age, which calls for raising awareness about the importance of managing screen time for children.
