Moscow – Sputnik. Local sources reported that the Rapid Support Forces attacked the displacement site housing tens of thousands of people. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs added that this is the second attack on the Abu Shouk camp within a week, with 40 deaths previously reported.
The statement pointed out that humanitarian needs continue to increase throughout North Darfur, including in Tawila, which has been home to more than 300,000 people since April. According to a rapid assessment by the Norwegian Refugee Council, about 98% of displaced families are unable to meet their basic needs, according to the organization.
Fighting has been ongoing between the Sudanese regular army and the Rapid Support Forces rebels for control of the country since April 2023. The International Committee of the Red Cross stated that the ongoing hostilities in the country could lead to disease outbreaks and a catastrophic collapse of the healthcare system.
