Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Dalati, the Internal Security Chief in the province, explained that the operation was the result of careful monitoring and intensive fieldwork. Initial investigations revealed that members of the cell received training in camps located within Lebanese territory and were planning operations aimed at destabilizing the security and stability of the citizens.
The statement indicated that the file was referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete legal procedures, while security agencies continue to investigate the detainees to uncover all connections and objectives related to the cell.
An explosive device had detonated in a car at the entrance of the ‘Mezzeh 86’ neighborhood in the Syrian capital the Wednesday before last, and the explosion was heard throughout the city. Local sources told ‘Sputnik’ that no reports of injuries have been received due to the explosion so far.
Meanwhile, the Syrian news agency ‘SANA’ stated that the nature of the incident is being verified. It added that ‘the competent authorities have initiated an urgent investigation to identify the party responsible for this terrorist act.’
