Senate Elections in Egypt: High Turnout and Key Details

The elections began domestically on Monday and will continue until nine in the evening today, after which the polling stations will close and the vote counting process will begin. The second day witnessed a high turnout of citizens, especially in the early morning and evening hours, just a few hours before the polls close.

The Senate elections are being held in 8,286 polling stations across the country. Sub-committees are distributed in 27 constituencies dedicated to the individual system and 4 constituencies for the list system. In these elections, 428 candidates are competing for individual seats, including 186 independent candidates and 242 party-affiliated candidates, vying for 100 seats. There is one list in the 4 constituencies allocated for the list system, led by the “Future of the Nation” party, which includes 13 parties.

It is noteworthy that Hazem Badawi, the head of the National Electoral Commission in Egypt, announced the timeline for the Senate elections last July. The process started with candidate applications on July 5 and will end with the announcement of the results on August 12 for the first round, and on September 4 if a runoff is necessary.

According to statistics, about 63 million Egyptian voters registered in the database are eligible to vote in the 2025 Senate elections. They are distributed across 8,286 polling stations, including schools, health units, and youth centers, to facilitate voting. The elections are supervised judicially by the Administrative Prosecution and State Lawsuit Authority, with the participation of 9,500 judges, who were distributed to committees in their respective residences, while 2,500 female judges oversee the elections.
