The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul stated yesterday, Friday, that the operation resulted in the detention of about 450 workers, including more than 30 South Koreans, as part of an investigation related to undocumented labor. The ministry’s spokesperson, Lee Jae-won, affirmed that “the economic activities of our companies and the rights of our citizens should not be unjustly violated,” noting that Seoul had communicated its concerns to Washington through the US embassy in the Korean capital, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. The ministry also added that it has dispatched officials from the embassy and consulates in Washington and Atlanta to the site, and formed a task force to follow up on the issue and handle developments on the ground.
