Slovakia’s Military Aid to Ukraine and Investigations

Moscow – Sputnik. In late October 2024, the Supreme Audit Office in Slovakia announced that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the republic has provided Kyiv with military aid worth approximately 700 million euros (810.7 million dollars), leaving Slovakia without its own air defense system.

Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the legality of the basis for transferring military equipment to Ukraine during the period of 2022-2023. The government of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stopped military supplies to Kyiv after taking office in the fall of 2023.

In September 2024, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar confirmed his country’s readiness to continue providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly asserted that the continuation of military aid to Ukraine hinders the peace process and makes NATO countries parties to the conflict.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov pointed out that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia.
