In a social media post, shared along with video footage of the protests, Diaz stated: “The Spanish community rejects the normalization of genocide in sports and cultural events, and Israel should not be allowed to participate in any event.” The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, announced last Monday that his country has taken nine measures to stop the situation in the Gaza Strip.
In a press conference, he said that Spain has decided to ban the supply of weapons to Israel, as well as prohibit the passage of ships carrying fuel for the Israeli army through Spanish ports. Spain has also decided to “prevent all planes carrying defense materials to Israel from entering Spanish airspace, as well as ban all individuals directly involved in genocide and war crimes from entering Spanish territory, and prohibit the import of products from illegal settlements in Gaza and the West Bank.”
Sanchez added in the press conference: “Protecting the homeland is one thing, but bombing hospitals and starving innocent children to death is something entirely different. What is happening is the extermination of an unarmed people, and it violates all humanitarian laws. We cannot stand idly by.”
