Study Links Screen Time to Health Risks in Youth

These risks include high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and insulin resistance, especially among children aged ten and teenagers aged eighteen who spend long hours in front of smartphones, televisions, computers, and video games, according to News Medical. The study, conducted in Denmark, was based on the analysis of data from more than 1000 participants from two long-term studies. The results showed that each additional hour a child spends in front of a screen increases the likelihood of developing health issues compared to their peers.

The study found that teenagers aged 18 years spend an average of 6 hours daily in front of screens, while the average screen time for children aged 10 is about 3 hours daily. It also noted that late sleep hours exacerbate the relationship between screen time and the risks of heart diseases.

The study serves as evidence that this relationship begins at an early age, highlighting the need to raise awareness about the importance of managing screen time among children.
