The Sudanese consulate published a statement today, Sunday, on its official social media accounts, announcing that it has begun accepting return requests through a dedicated electronic link, in addition to direct registration with representatives of Sudanese communities in several Libyan cities and regions. The consulate clarified that there are its representatives in other Libyan cities, including Marj, Bayda, Shahat, Qubah, Derna, Tobruk, Brega, Ajdabiya, Al-Wahat, Kufra, Sabha, and Jufra.

The statement from the Sudanese consulate in Benghazi, Libya, emphasized that Sudanese citizens wishing to return to their country can refer to the concerned authorities to complete the required procedures.

There are still 10.1 million internally displaced people in Sudan, with expectations of increasing numbers in light of attacks on the city of El Fasher in North Darfur and villages in North and West Kordofan, which have displaced tens of thousands from their homes, according to Sudanese media.

It is noteworthy that Sudan hosts more than 613,000 refugees from South Sudan, including 412,000 people in White Nile State, most of whom reside in 10 camps, including Khor Al-Waral, Umm Suqour, and Al-Jam’iyyah, while the rest are in urban areas.

War broke out on April 15, 2023, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) in various parts of Sudan, mostly concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths and injuries. Arab, African, and international parties have mediated to stop the fighting, but these mediations have not succeeded in reaching a permanent ceasefire.
