Peskov told reporters: “Attempts to encourage Ukraine in every possible way to continue military actions, and the claim that Ukraine is capable of reclaiming something, is, from our point of view, a mistaken thesis… The dynamics on the fronts testify to this without a doubt.” Peskov confirmed that the situation in Ukraine is different from what it was in the spring of 2022, and that Kyiv’s position has worsened.

Peskov explained, in response to journalists’ questions regarding his statement about Russia’s desire to break the deadlock in relations with the United States and how long it might take, by saying: “The tone of the statements may change from day to day, this is an independent course of our work, unfortunately, the work is progressing much slower than we would like… We believe it is our duty to accelerate our work by discussing the reasons for the tension in bilateral relations, yet this work is still moving slowly.”

Peskov told reporters, in response to a question about the possibility of Trump suspending the course aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine: “We have not heard any direct statements on this matter.” Peskov, in statements to Russian media, responded to a statement by US President Donald Trump, who described Russia’s economy as a “paper tiger”: “The phrase ‘paper tiger’ was used to refer to our economy… Russia is certainly not a tiger; in the end, Russia is more associated with the bear. Paper bears do not exist.”

Peskov confirmed that US President Donald Trump shows political will to seek a settlement in Ukraine, adding: “Trump maintains his political will to make efforts to find a settlement in Ukraine.”
