Summit in Egypt to End Gaza Conflict

Earlier, the office of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced the convening of a summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, to end the war in the Gaza Strip, on Monday, October 13, with the attendance of leaders from more than 20 countries. The summit will be chaired by President el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to a statement from the agency citing a diplomat, “The countries that mediated the Gaza ceasefire agreement will sign a document guaranteeing the agreement at a summit held on Monday in Sharm El Sheikh.” On Thursday, Trump announced that Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement reached an agreement to implement the first phase of the peace plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

In the first phase, Hamas will release Israeli hostages, Israel will withdraw its forces to an agreed line within the Strip, and hundreds of Palestinians, including those sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism, will be released.

Since last Monday, indirect negotiations have been taking place in the Egyptian capital between delegations from the Hamas movement and Israel, with the participation of mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, as part of the plan proposed by the U.S. President to end the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip for two years, release hostages, and begin the reconstruction phase.

These developments follow days after Hamas announced its acceptance of the principle of the U.S. initiative, with several Western and Arab capitals confirming their support for Trump’s efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement.
