The Syrian news agency “SANA” reported today, Thursday, pointing out that the decree confirmed that the committee was formed based on the provisions of the constitutional declaration and the decree establishing the National Commission for Transitional Justice No. 20 of 2025. The first article of the decree stipulated the formation of the National Commission for Transitional Justice, chaired by Abdul Baset Abdul Latif, a prominent legal figure.
In addition to holding perpetrators of violations accountable, the committee is also responsible for compensating victims and acknowledging their suffering, as well as establishing the principles of national reconciliation in coordination with the concerned authorities.
The new Syrian government is working on rebuilding the institutions of the Syrian state anew after the departure of the former President Bashar al-Assad’s government last December/January.
