Khor Abdullah Dispute: National and Sovereign Issue

Al-Fartousi explained in a statement to the ‘Iraqi News Channel’ that there is constant monitoring of ships entering the canal, and their official documents are scrutinized by the relevant authorities. He pointed out that Iraqi territorial waters are subject to the rule of law, and military and security forces conduct regular surveys to inspect the status of commercial and oil ships in waiting areas, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The head of the Iraqi Parliamentary Bloc for Rights, MP Saud Al-Saadi, confirmed last Sunday that the issue of Khor Abdullah is national and sovereign, unrelated to election propaganda or political competition. Al-Saadi emphasized this during a press conference in the Iraqi parliament, stating that claims otherwise are “misleading and baseless.”

Khor Abdullah is a waterway located north of the Arabian Gulf, between the Iraqi Faw Peninsula and Kuwait’s Bubiyan Island, and has been a subject of political and legal controversy between Iraq and Kuwait since the border demarcation following the Second Gulf War.
