Syrian President Visits Russia for Strategic Talks

Haider explained, in an intervention via ‘Sputnik’ radio, that Syrian-Russian relations are not tied to the previous regime but are linked to the strategic interests and files of the Syrian state and the region as a whole. He pointed out that the visit discusses three main files: military, political, and economic, all of which are connected to Russia’s historical role in Syria.

Haider confirmed that the visit is pivotal, and if positive results were not expected, it would not have occurred. He noted that it represents a culmination of the relationship between Damascus and Moscow and highlights the importance of Russia’s role as an effective mediator in the region. This includes alleviating international sanctions imposed on Syria, addressing the northern file with the ‘SDF,’ and the south, where Russia can also play a pivotal role, as well as managing the relationship with the Israeli side.

He emphasized at the end of his remarks that the Russian bases in Syria are present for strategic purposes, and discussions in Moscow may include defining their future tasks. Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, today, Wednesday, for an official visit to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Syrian news agency ‘SANA.’
