Chinese news agency Xinhua reported on Friday morning that the King of Thailand has issued a royal decree to form a new government consisting of 36 members chosen by Anutin Charnvirakul. The new government includes 6 deputy prime ministers and other ministers, following Anutin’s appointment as the new Prime Minister earlier this month. Anutin, aged 58, is noted as being the third Prime Minister of Thailand since 2023, and is expected to lead a coalition government with external support from the pro-democracy People’s Party, the largest bloc in parliament.

Anutin assumed his duties as Prime Minister of Thailand, succeeding Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was dismissed by court order after being found guilty of ethical violations due to a politically offensive phone call with the Cambodian Senate President, Hun Sen.

It is notable that Anutin served in Paetongtarn’s government as the Minister of Health but resigned from his position and withdrew his party from her coalition government after the news of the leaked phone call caused public outrage.
