The Dilemma of Stolen Artifacts and British Colonialism

In his intervention on ‘Sputnik’ radio, Al-Tarshan pointed out that ‘Britain is the biggest dilemma.’ He stated that ‘many archaeological sites were destroyed by invading armies, leading to the erasure of history in the Arab region, especially in Iraq and Syria, with artifacts being seized and transferred to the British Museum, which does not include a single piece belonging to their own history because they lack roots and civilization,’ emphasizing that ‘civilization originated in the East.’

Al-Tarshan noted that ‘Arab countries are pressing to recover their artifacts but are powerless against British and Western intransigence and the absence of a strict international law requiring their return, as diplomatic relations are ineffective.’

It is worth mentioning that the United Kingdom leads in the number of valuable stolen art pieces from around the world, with the British Museum alone, the oldest national public museum in the world, housing collections from all over the globe, most of which were gathered during the colonial era. Britain is considered the largest colonial power in the world.
