Trump told reporters on Wednesday, in response to a question about the potential meeting with Putin: “I think this week or early next week.” It is noted that Putin met with Trump on August 15th in Anchorage, Alaska, where the two leaders discussed a number of issues of mutual interest. The summit laid the groundwork for further negotiations between the two countries and showed a willingness from both sides to move forward in regulating and developing other areas of Russian-American relations.
The Alaska summit addressed issues of diplomatic relations, normalization between the two countries, international defense and security, economic cooperation, and the fate of the American sanctions imposed on Moscow, in addition to the Ukrainian issue.
