Trump said: “Qatar is a great ally of the United States.” On Sunday, the Arab and Islamic summit issued a draft statement condemning in the strongest terms the Israeli attack on Qatar, describing it as “cowardly,” and affirming that this aggression threatens existing and future agreements with Israel.
The statement pointed out that the attack undermines the chances for peace and coexistence in the region and hinders efforts to develop relations, according to Al Arabiya channel.
Earlier, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani described the Israeli assault on the capital, Doha, as “state terrorism,” affirming that Qatar will face any threat it encounters “by all possible legal means.”
In previous statements, Trump said that the Israeli attack on Qatar was a decision made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He explained that “the U.S. military informed our administration today that Israel is attacking Hamas in the Qatari capital.”
Trump initially criticized Israel for its aggression against Doha last Tuesday. However, American diplomats confirmed that the attack would not affect relations with Israel. The attack has been widely condemned internationally.
