On Saturday, September 27, President Donald Trump authorized the deployment of troops in Portland, a city in the northwest US, and at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) centers, expanding his controversial domestic military actions.
“At the request of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, I am instructing Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to provide all necessary troops to protect war-torn Portland and our ICE facilities under threat from Antifa and other domestic terrorists,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
“I am also authorizing the use of full force, if necessary,” he added, without clarifying what “full force” entails.
