Trump expressed to American media his concern about reports of famine in the sector, but accused Hamas of ‘stealing and selling humanitarian aid entering Gaza.’ In a related context, Trump praised efforts without specifying their nature, noting that he has not yet received any briefing regarding his recent visit to Gaza. When asked about the possibility of moving from a gradual agreement to a comprehensive one regarding the crisis in Gaza, Trump refused to provide details, saying only: ‘You will see soon.’
Trump’s statements come after the US special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, announced today, Friday, that he spent more than 5 hours inside the Gaza Strip, trying to devise a plan to facilitate the delivery of aid to the area and to better understand the situation there. He added, ‘The purpose of the visit was to give US President Donald Trump a clear understanding of the humanitarian situation and to help create a plan to deliver food and medical aid to the residents of Gaza.’
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated yesterday, Thursday, that Steve Witkoff and the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, will visit the Gaza Strip today, Friday, to address the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian sector by inspecting aid distribution sites and developing a plan to deliver more food. For months, Israel has closed all crossings with the sector and prevented the entry of most food and medical aid, causing famine to spread.
