In a statement, the command stated: “On August 19, U.S. Central Command forces conducted a successful raid in northern Syria, resulting in the elimination of a high-ranking member of ISIS* who posed a direct threat to U.S. and coalition forces, as well as the new Syrian government, due to his extensive connections with the organization’s network in the region.”
The U.S. military had announced last July the killing of another ISIS* leader named Diaa Zoab Maslih Al-Hardani during a similar operation in northern Syria.
* The organization is banned in Russia, the United States, and several other countries.
