In a major advancement for UAE-India industrial cooperation, Ta’ziz has inked two long-term offtake agreements with The Sanmar Group, a global leader in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and specialty chemicals. Announced at the ADIPEC energy conference, this deal marks the inaugural export of key petrochemicals — ethylene dichloride (EDC) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) — from the UAE.
The agreements, spanning five to ten years, entail Ta’ziz supplying over 350,000 tonnes annually of EDC and VCM to fuel Sanmar’s PVC production sites in Port Said, Egypt, and Cuddalore, India. These chemicals are crucial for producing PVC, a versatile material with numerous industrial and consumer uses.
The production will occur at the Ta’ziz Chemicals Industrial Zone in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi, slated to be operational by 2028 with an annual output of 4.7 million tonnes of chemicals, including caustic soda, ammonia, methanol, and PVC. The PVC complex alone will have a 1.9 million tonnes per year capacity.
This collaboration not only strengthens the UAE’s standing in the global chemical market but also supports the Operation 300Bn initiative, which aims to grow the UAE’s industrial sector and bolster economic resilience.
Ta’ziz, a joint venture formed by Adnoc and ADQ in 2020, is central to the UAE’s industrial evolution. The Sanmar Group, with over 60 years of history, operates in India, Egypt, Singapore, Mexico, and the United States, known for ethical practices and strategic growth partnerships.
The signing event was attended by notable figures, including His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Adnoc Managing Director and Group CEO, alongside Ambassador Navdeep Suri, Chairman of TCI Sanmar Chemicals and former Indian Ambassador to the UAE and Egypt.
Mashal Al-Kindi, CEO of Ta’ziz, highlighted the deal’s strategic significance, stating, “These agreements affirm Ta’ziz’s dedication to being a dependable supplier of premium petrochemical products globally. We are excited to collaborate with The Sanmar Group to support their growth in Egypt and India, while also promoting industrial progress and economic diversification in the UAE.”
Vijay Sankar, Chairman of The Sanmar Group, shared this enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to start our strategic partnership with Ta’ziz. These long-term agreements reflect our mutual commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and enduring value creation.”
