The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on Friday morning that the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Israeli ambassador for a reprimand due to the Israeli attack on Qatar, aimed at attempting to assassinate leaders of the Hamas movement. It was explained that Qatar threatened Israel with a response to its violation of its sovereignty following the attack on a residential building housing Hamas leaders, which caught the attention of the international community. The fate of those leaders remains unknown until now.
The electronic publication ‘GDN’ indicated that Israel has not apologized for the attack nor committed to not repeating it. On the contrary, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that ‘any state that harbors terrorism is not immune from attack.’ Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, commenting on the targeting of Hamas leaders in Doha, affirmed that ‘Israel will act against its enemies everywhere, and everyone involved in the October 7 attack will be held accountable.’
The White House described the attack as ‘inappropriate’, while Trump stressed he was ‘unhappy with all the details of the operation’, noting it came at a bad timing, especially with Qatar’s role in mediation and attempts to achieve calm.
The Israeli army announced that it carried out an airstrike last Tuesday, stating that these leaders ‘bear direct responsibility for committing the massacre of October 7, 2023, and managing the war against Israel.’ This Israeli attack comes days after the Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir threatened to eliminate Hamas leaders abroad amidst the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
Last year witnessed a series of Israeli assassinations targeting prominent Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip, Iran, and Lebanon.
