UAE Supports Pakistan-Afghanistan Ceasefire Agreement

The UAE has embraced the immediate ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following a week of intense border conflicts, marking the worst violence since the Taliban’s 2021 takeover in Kabul.

Announced on October 19 after discussions in Doha, the agreement involves mechanisms to enhance peace and stability between the nations, a move praised by the UAE.

Earlier this month, ground battles and Pakistani airstrikes along their disputed 2,600-km (1,600-mile) border erupted after Islamabad urged Kabul to control militants accused of launching attacks on Pakistan from Afghan bases.

The Taliban refutes claims of harboring militants against Pakistan and alleges the Pakistani military spreads false information about Afghanistan while hosting ISIS-linked militants to destabilize it. Islamabad rejects these allegations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended Qatar and Turkey’s diplomatic efforts to create a positive environment for dialogue and understanding between the parties.

The Ministry reiterated “the UAE’s support for initiatives that strengthen regional security and stability, fulfilling the peoples’ aspirations of Pakistan and Afghanistan for peace and development”.
