Abbas praised the “recognition of the independent State of Palestine by the United Kingdom,” emphasizing that it constitutes an important and necessary step towards achieving a just and lasting peace in accordance with international legitimacy decisions, according to Palestinian news agency – WAFA.
He affirmed that “the British recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, freedom, and independence will pave the way for implementing the two-state solution, allowing the State of Palestine to live alongside the State of Israel in security, peace, and good neighborliness.”
Abbas stressed that “the priority today is to ceasefire, introduce aid, release all hostages and prisoners, achieve a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, enable the State of Palestine to fully assume its responsibilities, move towards recovery and reconstruction, halt settlement activities, and stop settler terrorism.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, considering them courageous decisions in line with international law and legitimacy decisions, stemming from these countries’ commitment to ending the occupation and achieving peace, ensuring the security, stability, and prosperity of the region and the world.
The ministry viewed the recognition of the State of Palestine by these countries as “recognition of the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, ensuring the protection of the two-state solution from the threats posed by the ongoing crimes of genocide, starvation, displacement, and annexation committed by the occupation authorities against our people.”
