Tusk wrote in a post on the “X” platform today, Saturday: “The game for the future of Ukraine and the security of Poland and all of Europe has entered a critical phase… Therefore, maintaining the unity of the entire West is of crucial importance.” The leaders discussed a number of issues of mutual interest during their talks, which lasted for about three hours, primarily focusing on the Ukrainian crisis and bilateral relations between the two countries.
The historic summit in Alaska did not result in a final agreement to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, despite Trump and Putin describing the talks as “fruitful and constructive” and announcing that they made progress on many issues.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin, following the talks with Trump, stressed that the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis must be addressed to achieve a long-term settlement, highlighting the importance of resuming cooperation between Russia and the United States.
Medvedev added that “the preliminary results of the summit are the restoration of a full mechanism for high-level meetings between Moscow and Washington without ultimatums or threats, considering the most important point to be the confirmation from both sides that the responsibility for achieving future results in the negotiations to end hostilities falls on Kyiv and Europe.”
