Safy noted, in an intervention on ‘Sputnik’ radio, that the ‘project of joining NATO is no longer an option on the table and has ended,’ explaining that ‘the aim of this project was to encircle Russia, but they realized that there is no chance for Ukraine to join NATO.’ He considered that ‘Europe cannot enjoy security and rebuild the geopolitical landscape in Europe without taking into account Russia’s national security concerns.’
He saw that ‘Ukraine is not a partner in decision-making because the talks are taking place in the White House and the Kremlin to end the crisis.’ He said that ‘Kiev faces a major dilemma: either accept Trump’s plan or lose American support, as it relies on American weapons and intelligence exchange. Without support, it cannot withstand this conflict,’ considering that ‘accepting Trump’s plan means they will accept significant concessions, and if they do not, they risk losing a major ally.’ He confirmed that ‘Kiev is in a major predicament.’
He added that ‘the best option is for European countries to sit with Moscow to discuss the option of European security and seek permanent stability,’ revealing that ‘the British, German, and French positions are not yet clear.’ Earlier, the US administration announced a plan to settle the Ukrainian crisis, indicating that it will not discuss its details currently, as ‘work is still ongoing.’ The Kremlin stated that Russia remains committed to the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump, which took place in Anchorage, Alaska.
