The Sudanese ‘Al-Mashhad’ reported today, Monday, indicating that the governors of the five states decided during their meeting with Tambour to ‘form a unified combat force to participate in operations advancing towards the city of El Fasher.’ The governors of the five states agreed on the urgent need to coordinate to protect civilians and provide sufficient support to address the food shortage crisis.
The Darfur region comprises five states: West Darfur, East Darfur, Central Darfur, South Darfur, and North Darfur, with its capital being the city of El Fasher. The city of El Fasher is suffering from a severe humanitarian crisis due to the lack of basic food supplies, especially in the Abu Shouk camp for displaced persons, because of the absence of food supplies in local markets. This crisis has worsened with the continued siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces on the city for about a year.
Arab, African, and international parties have mediated to achieve a ceasefire, but these mediations have not succeeded in reaching a permanent halt to the fighting.
