The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, Tommy Pigott, stated in a statement on Monday: “The United States took actions this week to impose maximum pressure on the Iranian regime by restricting the movement of its delegation at the General Assembly and preventing access to major stores and luxury goods.” The statement noted that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is only allowed to travel to and from the United Nations headquarters.
He added, “The safety of Americans always remains our priority, and the United States will not allow the Iranian regime to use General Assembly meetings as an excuse to move freely in New York to promote its terrorist agenda.”
