The United States is rejecting and nullifying visas for members of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority in advance of the United Nations General Assembly in September, according to a statement from the US State Department on Friday.
These restrictions imply that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas may be unable to travel to New York to give his customary speech at the annual event.

This action follows US sanctions imposed on Palestinian Authority officials and Palestine Liberation Organization members in July, despite other Western nations moving towards recognizing Palestinian statehood.
The State Department noted that the Palestinian Authority’s mission to the UN is exempt from these restrictions but did not provide further details.
