US-Russia Talks on Ukraine Crisis Progress

In an interview with Sputnik Radio, Habib explained that Witkoff’s “positive and constructive” approach aims to end the Ukrainian crisis. He suggested that this step might pave the way for a meeting between major leaders, potentially bringing together Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

He pointed out that “the position of European countries is becoming complicated regarding the continued support for Ukraine,” while “the United States is moving towards a more realistic approach in understanding Russia’s national security concerns, which cannot be compromised.”

Habib considered that “the firmness of Russia’s stance in defending its national security, along with Russia’s strength, greatness, and international relations, has prompted Washington to adopt a less rigid and more realistic approach towards Moscow.”

Habib also noted that Trump “wants to continue dialogue with President Putin and end the conflict in Ukraine,” emphasizing that “secrecy is a fundamental element for the success of these talks.” He explained that Witkoff’s visit is part of Trump’s attempt to “cut off the European troika and move towards a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.”

Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of the Russian president for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, stated that progress is noticeable in relations between Russia and America, noting that “positive forces will prevail.”

US President Donald Trump commented on the results of the meeting between US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing it as an “extremely fruitful meeting.” He wrote on the “Truth Social” platform: “My special envoy Steve Witkoff had an extremely fruitful meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.”

The Russian presidential press office announced in a statement: “Witkoff arrived in Moscow on Wednesday morning, marking his fifth visit to Russia in 2025.”
