US Sanctions on Palestinian Officials Amid Peace Efforts

Saar stated on the ‘X’ platform that the Palestinian Authority must bear the consequences of what he considered a ‘systematic policy’ of paying money to attackers and their families, and inciting against Israel in schools, mosques, and media. The Israeli Foreign Minister added in his statement that this move by the U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration reveals what he described as the ‘moral deviation’ of some countries that rushed to recognize a ‘virtual’ Palestinian state, ignoring what he considered support for terrorism and incitement by the Palestinian Authority.

The U.S. State Department announced in a statement on Thursday that America will impose sanctions on Palestinian Authority officials and members of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, stating that they undermine peace efforts. The statement explained that this step prevents those targeted by the sanctions from obtaining travel visas, according to Western media.

The statement continued: ‘It is in our national security interest to impose consequences and hold the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority accountable for non-compliance with their commitments and undermining peace prospects.’

The United States downplayed the importance of the conference held under French and Saudi sponsorship on Monday, aimed at supporting the two-state solution between Palestinians and Israelis. The U.S. State Department described the three-day conference as ‘unproductive and untimely,’ adding that it is merely a ‘propaganda stunt’ that would hinder peace efforts, according to Western media.

The State Department considered this diplomatic move a ‘reward for terrorism,’ and it saw that French President Emmanuel Macron’s pledge to recognize a Palestinian state would lead to ‘counterproductive results.’

The Gaza Strip faces the worst humanitarian crises, as the population suffers from severe famine amid the attacks launched by Israel since October 7, 2023. Israel has closed all crossings with the strip for months, preventing the entry of most food and medical aid, causing famine to spread.

From October 7, 2023, until this July, the war on Gaza has resulted in the death of more than 59,000 Palestinians, in addition to about 143,000 injured, according to the Ministry of Health in the strip.
