Earlier today, Thursday, the White House announced that President Donald Trump’s administration continues its efforts with Russia and Ukraine to organize a bilateral meeting between Moscow and Kyiv aimed at ending the ongoing military conflict. A White House official said, ‘President Trump and his national security team continue to communicate with Russian and Ukrainian officials to prepare for a bilateral meeting aimed at stopping the fighting and ending the conflict.’
On Monday, Trump met with Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders at the White House before having a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the peace process in Ukraine. According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, Trump and Putin agreed on the necessity of continuing direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations, with consideration given to raising the level of negotiators’ representation.
It is worth noting that the Russian and American presidents held talks on August 15 dedicated to exploring ways to settle the Ukrainian conflict.
