Yemeni Missile Intercepted by Israeli Forces

Cairo – Sputnik. The Israeli army stated in a declaration, “We have detected a missile launch from Yemen towards Israeli territory, and our air defense systems are working to intercept this threat.” It noted that “following the sounding of alarms shortly ago, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.” Social media users circulated videos showing the Yemeni missile in the Israeli sky before the army announced its interception.

The attack comes after the Yemeni group “Ansar Allah” announced last Tuesday that it targeted Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv with a hypersonic missile, as part of its ongoing attacks on Israel. The group justifies these actions as support for Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip against the Israeli army.

Since November 2023, “Ansar Allah” has been conducting attacks on Israel and ships linked to Israel, the United States, and Britain in the Red Sea, in response to the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip. Since the resumption of military operations by Tel Aviv in the Gaza Strip on March 18, “Ansar Allah” in Yemen intensified its attacks on Israel and related ships, prompting the U.S. forces to carry out hundreds of airstrikes on the group’s sites in Yemen. An agreement to ceasefire was reached between the group and Washington on May 6, yet “Ansar Allah” confirmed that the agreement does not include operations against Israel.

The “Ansar Allah” group has controlled most provinces in central and northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, since September 2014. An Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia launched military operations on March 26, 2015, to support the Yemeni army in reclaiming those areas from the group’s grip.
