The agency quoted a knowledgeable source saying that Zelensky’s objectives for this meeting are to learn more about Russia’s demands, set a date for a trilateral meeting with Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and pressure Washington to impose new sanctions on Moscow. It is expected that Zelensky’s team will seek more information on the guarantees that the United States might offer as part of the deal. According to CNN, the meeting between Trump and Zelensky will be held in Washington on August 18th, with the presence of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who has previously had a public dispute with Zelensky.
Several European leaders have also announced their participation, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
