Zidane emphasized in his intervention on “Sputnik” radio that the Russian President’s initiative to renew the “START” treaty is an opportunity to create a better atmosphere internationally. This initiative aims to ease tensions after the increasing arms race, especially those weapons that rely on modern technical and technological means, which pose a danger to the future of humanity.
Zidane considered that Putin’s deliberate launch of this initiative during the meeting of the Russian National Security Council indicates its seriousness and the importance of proceeding with dialogue to renew the “START” agreement. He pointed out that this move comes as a result of high-level tensions caused by the turmoil in Europe.
Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed during a meeting with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council that the (START treaty) will negatively affect the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
