The 2025 floods in Pakistan triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, claiming over 1,037 lives, injuring 1,067 individuals, and impacting 6.9 million people. The disaster devastated entire districts, obliterating homes, livestock, and livelihoods. Approximately 2.8–3 million people have been displaced or evacuated, with 150,000 residing in evacuation centers. The extensive damage includes nearly 230,000 homes destroyed, 1.2–2.2 million hectares of submerged cropland, and the loss of 22,800 livestock, jeopardizing food security and incomes for vulnerable communities.

The calamity spread through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, isolating towns and villages while overwhelming public health systems. Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) emerged as a key responder, leveraging its deep-rooted presence and crisis experience to deliver immediate, lifesaving interventions. The floods underscored the essential role of a healthcare network capable of reaching populations cut off by rising waters and damaged infrastructure.

Pregnant women, newborns, and young families were particularly vulnerable, often without access to essential maternal health services. Recognizing the urgency, IHHN mobilized its Maternal Health on Wheels—fully equipped mobile units providing comprehensive care to displaced communities.

These advanced units offer labor rooms, antenatal and postnatal services, MNCH care, primary health clinics, free medications, gynecological consultations, and mental health counseling for women and adolescent girls facing trauma. To address the emergency, 15 Maternal Health Units were deployed across the flood-affected provinces.

From August to November, IHHN’s flood relief efforts achieved significant impact:

  • 19 districts served in KPK and Punjab

  • 835 camps organized

  • 150,641 patients treated

  • 1,770 medical visits conducted

  • 22,867 laboratory tests performed

  • 7 safe deliveries facilitated through mobile units

Behind these figures are human stories, like 28-year-old Taj Mai from Alipur, Muzaffargarh. Gynecologist Dr. Misbah Khalid and her team provided round-the-clock maternal care at the Health on Wheels unit for 15 days, in an area where services had collapsed.

On 23 October, Taj delivered a healthy baby boy in the mobile clinic.

“IHHN’s team and this facility are a miracle for us,” she said. “There is no such facility here, and thanks to IHHN’s care, I delivered a healthy baby boy today.”

After delivery, Taj received postnatal monitoring, free medicines, a baby kit, and transport—services unimaginable in her flood-stricken area. “IHHN is crucial for us in these times,” she added. “My family and I are extremely grateful.”

Such stories embody IHHN’s mission to reach the unreached, especially when public health systems are overwhelmed.

As IHHN continues its flood response, its efforts are supported by generous individuals and institutions committed to equitable healthcare. Among its strongest allies are The Indus Hospital, UAE’s trustees, donors, and community members, whose dedication ensures timely medical care for flood-affected families in Pakistan.

The Indus Hospital, registered with Dubai Humanitarian, supports IHHN with fundraising, awareness, and community engagement, aligning with the UAE’s global healthcare and humanitarian commitments. This support empowers IHHN to respond swiftly and compassionately, bringing hope to millions.
