Gargash confirmed on the “X” platform that “the invasion and brutal occupation of the sister state of Kuwait marked a pivotal awareness moment for an entire generation in the Arabian Gulf. We learned that the homeland comes first and always, not to be deceived by slogans, and to rely on Gulf solidarity as the true support.” He continued: “On the 35th anniversary of the invasion, there is a dire need to instill this awareness in the minds of new generations.” It is noteworthy that Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait was an attack launched by the Iraqi army on Kuwait on August 2, 1990, during the tenure of former President Saddam Hussein. The military operation lasted two days and ended with Iraqi forces taking control of the entire Kuwaiti territory on August 4. A puppet government was then formed under Colonel Alaa Hussein’s leadership, and on August 9, 1990, the Iraqi government announced the annexation of Kuwait to Iraq, canceling all international embassies in Kuwait. The Iraqi occupation of Kuwait lasted for seven months, ending with Kuwait’s liberation on February 26, 1991, after the Second Gulf War.
