Abhishek Bachchan is charmingly witty, spontaneous, and his gentlemanly demeanor is captivating. In an exclusive interview with City Times, the Bollywood star shares his passion for luxury watches, even advocating for wearing two at once. He also discusses his inspirations in film and family life. Here are edited excerpts from our conversation.
You’ve worked with many great directors. Which one has most influenced your acting style or mindset?
Every director influences an actor. Directors are the ultimate guide for actors, so each one has been special and has inspired me in unique ways. It wouldn’t be fair to single anyone out.

Your recent films have been well-received by audiences. Are you selective about the projects you choose?
I don’t think I’m more selective. I’ve always chosen films that inspire me. I aim to pick projects that resonate with audiences and inspire me as an actor.
Your performance in Ghoomer was a success. The film is now re-released in theaters. Your thoughts?
Director R Balki discussed re-releasing Ghoomer to honor the Indian women’s cricket team for winning the World Cup. It’s our humble tribute to them and their perseverance.
With the rise of OTT platforms, the way we consume content has changed. How has this shift impacted storytelling?
I think it’s fantastic. We have another platform to showcase talent. OTT and similar platforms give more actors, directors, writers, and technicians the chance to realize their dreams. It’s a positive step forward.

Do you think the charm of going to theaters is fading?
No, not at all. The magic of going to the movies and enjoying cinema on the big screen will always remain.
You’ve mentioned the importance of family in your life. How do you prioritize family time, and what are your favorite ways to spend it?
When I’m not working, I spend time with family, which is rare because my family is often busy. Gathering everyone together is precious. To me, luxury is enjoying a meal with my entire family at the same table.
Reflecting on your career, what are some life lessons you’d share?
Never give up. Believe in yourself. Fight the good fight and do what you need to do.

What do luxury timepieces mean to you?
My interest in watches began in my teens at a Swiss boarding school. Watches fascinated me. As an actor, it’s about having a conversation piece on your wrist. It’s not just the watch; it’s the precision and attention to detail that drew me to Omega. Over time, it became emotional, and each watch is tied to strong memories.
Your father Amitabh Bachchan shares your passion for watches.
I inherited my love for watches from my dad. Although he no longer wears two watches due to age, I’ve taken up the habit. As a kid, we didn’t have dual time zones. While studying in Switzerland, my sister wore two watches for different time zones—one for India, one for Switzerland. I do the same now in honor of Mom (Jaya Bachchan).

How many watches do you own?
I own over 40 Omegas. Some were gifts, but I purchased about half of them (laughs).
